What an amazing weekend! Hacking the Heat: A Compost Heat Recovery Weekend Intensive was a tremendous success that launched Highfields' first active compost heat recovery systems. See this planter bed at Jasper Hill Farm…it's actually a compost heat recovery system, supplying substantial heat to the Jasper Hill Green Machine.
The intensive was November 16 and 17, 2013 and included visits to two on-farm compost heat recovery (CHR) systems as well as a tour of Highfields Research and Education Facility’s ongoing CHR systems development. There was a presentation on compost thermodynamics from Bob Rynk, Editor of the On-Farm Composting Handbook, and a Pain Mound build-out with Compost Power’s founder Gaelan Brown.
